How to Develop Your Intuition and Psychic Abilities

How to Develop Your Intuition and Psychic Abilities and Intuitive Type Quiz!

Have you ever had a really bad feeling about something, gone and done it anyway, and then felt like kicking yourself afterwards? Things turn out badly and you're just like "I knew it! I knew I shouldn't have done that". I've done it, many many times, and I'm sure you have too.

Your intuition is that little voice inside of you, that gut feeling, that just seems to know what's about to go down without any sort of conscious reasoning. For example:

  • You were just thinking of a friend and then she messages you.
  • You are about to cross the road and then for some reason you stop for a moment, only to see a car zooming down the street seconds later.
  • You don't know why but you feel like calling your mother and when you do she tells you she's not feeling well.

Sound familiar?

Intuition is our inner GPS system that we are all born with. Its purpose is to serve as an indicator of decisions or situations that are for our highest good vs those that are egoic. Everybody has it to some degree and everybody has the ability to develop their intuition.

It's sort of like sharpening a dull blade or exercising a muscle. Psychic abilities are basically one level up from intuition and can be developed just the same.

Imagine how much better things would be if you always listened to your intuition and avoided bad decisions before they happened.

What if you developed your intuitive gifts to such an extent that you're able to tap into it any time you want for more soul-centred decision making

That would be awesome right? Well, today I'm going to show you how to that.

Intuition vs Psychic Abilties

Before we dive in, it's important to be able to recognise the difference between intuition and psychic abilities. People often use the words "intuitive" and "psychic" interchangeably, when in fact they are actually different. Related, but different.

The reason why people, myself included, do that sometimes is because of the stigma attached to the word "psychic". Society loves to brand psychics as charlatans, tricksters, and frauds out to make a quick buck from the unsuspecting public. The word "intuitive" seems more friendly and accessible to the lay person.

Since I do it myself sometimes, there is no judgement on my part for using the two words interchangeably, but it's important for you to know what the technical difference actually is.

Intuition, like I said, is your inner sense of knowingness. We've already gone through some examples of how it comes through. What about psychic?

Well, being psychic is one step above intuition. Once you've started consciously working on developing your intuition, through exercises and your spiritual practice, it might transition into psychic ability.

That means that instead of getting a feeling that you should call your mom you might randomly get the words "mom's sick" pop into your head. Another example is, instead of simply deciding not to cross the road right before a car zooms past, you get an image in your mind of a car driving by very fast first.

You see the difference?

Psychic ability is beyond just having a hunch, it's extra-sensory perception. You get information as images, words, feelings, or thoughts, seemingly out of nowhere and start using the spiritual senses that underlie the physical ones.

The way you, personally, get that information depends on your dominant intuitive type. Are you a visual person, auditory, prefer relying on your gut, or simply 'get' things? Your personal strength, your intuitive type, is that little seed within you that determines what your psychic strength will be.

Your guides will use that try to send information to you in a way you can perceive and understand, once you start a spiritual practice and actively develop your psychic abilities.

The 4 Intuitive Types

The physical body and senses are physical manifestations of the spiritual body and senses. Just as you have various kinds of physical senses, you also have various types of spiritual senses. There can be as many as 8 but there are 4 main kinds that most people will fit into:

  • Clairvoyance - clear seeing
  • Clairaudience - clear hearing
  • Clairsentience - clear feeling
  • Claircognizance - clear knowing

Let's dive into each one a little deeper shall we?

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance is your spiritual sight. Clairvoyants are visual intuitives who tend to receive information as images within their mind's eye.

Clairvoyants are:

  • Able to 'see' their spirit guides and angels, as well as auras and energy around people, animals, and plants using their third eye.
  • Able to imagine things in great detail and have vivid dreams.
  • Visual learners and need to see things in order to comprehend them fully.

Clairaudience

Clairaudience is your spiritual hearing. Clairaudients are auditory intuitives who tend to receive information as sounds, thoughts, or phrases in their mind.

Clairaudients are:

  • Able to 'hear' their spirit guides and angels - answers tend to come into their mind as short phrases.
  • Able to recall conversations, music, and sounds with amazing clarity and often get songs stuck in their head.
  • Auditory learners who prefer to listen to explanations of new ideas or concepts.

Clairsentience

Clairsentience is your spiritual sense of feeling. Clairsentients receive information as physical sensations in their body like a gut feeling, goose bumps, or elevated heart rate.

Clairsentients are:

  • Are able to sense when their spirit guides are around by getting a feeling of calm, sense of love and compassion, or any other feeling they associate with a specific guide.
  • Able to get a good read of situations based on how it makes them feel - calm and balanced or nervous and anxious.
  • Sensitive people who make decisions based on gut feeling.

Claircognizance

Claircognizance is your spiritual sense of knowing. Claircognizants tend to simply know things to be true without there being any local explanation for it. Claircognizants receive information as direct downloads from the spiritual realm.

Claircognizants are:

  • Able to get ideas, insight, and inspiration seemingly out of nowhere.
  • Able to accurately judge character and assess situations by simply knowing what the person or situation will be like.
  • Analytical problem-solvers who are able to figure things out relatively quickly and seem to know the answer without much help.

Other Kinds of Intuition

Not really resonating with the above? That's ok! Intuition is not limited to just the four clairs. As I said earlier, there are many other kinds of intuition.

Here is a short overview of some others for you to look into:

  • Clairalience - clear smelling (the ability to smell something without there being any physical source)
  • Clairempathy - clear emotion (the ability to sense another person's emotions)
  • Clairgustance - clear tasting (the ability to taste something without there being anything in the mouth)
  • Clairtangency - clear touching (sensing information my touching objects)

The physical body and senses are physical manifestations of the spiritual body and senses. Just as you have various kinds of physical senses, you also have various types of spiritual senses.

Your Personal Intuitive Style

In order to figure out what you are, ask yourself:

  • Which style describes you best?
  • How do you tend to make decisions?
  • What style of intuition are you most attracted to?

Think back to a time when you knew something to be true before it happened or without any kind of physical stimuli or source of information. You just knew it and it turned out to be right.

Relive that moment in your mind and ask yourself how did you know what? How did the information come through?

  • Did you get an image in your mind's eye?
  • Did you get a thought or word phrase in your mind that told you what you needed to know?
  • Did you get any kind of physical feeling beforehand?
  • Did you just simply know it, without there being any other explanation?

Exercises To Develop Your Intuition

Now that we've gone through what intuition is, and what the different types are, let's run through a 3 exercises you can do to strengthen your intuition.

Exercise 1: The Traffic Light

Here's an exercise you can do the next time you need to make a decision:

  1. Before making the decision, find some quiet time, and take a few deep breaths to centre yourself.
  2. Now, imagine that you're standing in a an elevator and it's going up and up into a contol centre within your mind.
  3. There is a dial there there that you can use to raise your frequency in order to connect with Spirit. Go ahead and dial it up to max.
  4. In this higher vibrational space, I want you to imagine a traffic light.
  5. Ask your question and wait for the answer. If the traffic light goes red it's a no, if it goes yellow it's a maybe, and if it's a yes it goes green.
  6. Now, do not debate, evaluate, or analyse the answer you get too much. Just do it!
  7. Afterwards, write down in your journal what happened as a result of your decision.

Exercise 2: Play the Guessing Game

This exercise helps you really hone your intuition and I've done it may times. Basically throughout your day you're just going to pick a few moments where you try and guess what's going to happen next. For example, you can ask yourself:

  • Will there be traffic today? Yes or no?
  • Will my boss/family member/friend be in a good mood? Yes or no?
  • How will my meeting go? Good or bad?
  • What colour will the next car I see be? Black, blue, silver, red, etc?

You get the picture.

Just spend a few moments to centre yourself and then just go with your very first guess, your knee-jerk gut response. Then, after the fact, compare what actually happened with what your intuition told you.

One other tip I have for you on this point is that when you're satisfied you can intuit the yes/no, good/bad, binary type of answers try to work with percentages. Ask yourself: how likely is it that X thing will happen? Then assign a percentage from 0-100 to the feeling you get. Is it definitely no or more like a 70% and and 30% yes?

Initially you may not get always be 100% accurate but the more you do it the better you will get.

Exercise 3: Choose a Card of the Day from Your Tarot or Oracle Deck

It's really no secret that I'm a huge proponent of intuitive tarot reading. I believe that tarot and oracle decks really help people build a connection with their own intuition and acts as an entry point for psychic development.

Picking a card of the day is one of the best ways to use your deck to help you develop your intuition.

Here's what you do:

  1. Get your tarot or oracle deck
  2. Shuffle the cards and pick one. This is your card of the day.
  3. In your journal, write down a few keywords and thoughts on what you think it means.
  4. Go about your day as normal.
  5. At the end of the day, think about how that card matched your day. It could be a theme for the day, a feeling you had, or a single moment in the day. Maybe you feel like it didn't relate much to your day at all. That's ok. Go to step 6.
  6. At the end of the month, look for patterns and record your thoughts on how it could be related to how your month went overall.

After a while you're going to get really familiar with what certain cards mean for you. The more you do it, the less you will be surprised by the card you got because you'll find that you're already able to tune in to your own intuition loud and clear.

The answers you get from your own intuition come from a completely non-egoic, higher source. It comes from the inner god or goddess within you and if you listen to that voice you will feel so much better, happier, and more confident about the decisions you make.

Using Your Intuition For Better Decision Making

In our daily lives we often get caught up in situations where we are so emotionally involved that we cannot see the forest for the trees. In those moments, despite our better judgement, we may make egoic decisions that are not for our highest good, and then suffer later when things go badly.

How many times has it happened to you? You knew you should have dumped that boyfriend, quit that job, attended that school and then regretted it later? I wish I listened to my intuition, you say.

Well, you can! We all of us incarnate with a full team of spirit guides and angels that try to help us live in alignment with our higher selves. They communicate with us through numbers, signs and symbols, and, you guessed it, your intuition!

Dear friends, the answers you get from your own intuition come from a completely non-egoic, higher source. It comes from the inner god or goddess within you and if you listen to that voice you will feel so much better, happier, and more confident about the decisions you make. Those decisions will feel good because they're in alignment with your highest good.

So the next time you are faced with a difficult decision try one of the exercises above, try to intuit what you should do, and then follow the advice. If you feel like you're unsure then all you have to do is ask your guides for a sign.

Say to them, "if this is the right decision, then show me a sign" and watch out for it. You can either ask for a specific sign, like a butterfly, and then watch out for it, or you can leave it open and see what repeated numbers, animals, or symbols you come across within the next 3 days.

Keep working on your intuition and try to put it into practice for your own decision making. I promise you things will go better for you.
